Can i get Generals to work on a network with only one cd?

Ive got the real C&C generals cds, which i bought, my mates have installed it on thier PCs (which are on my network) with no cd patches but different serial codes.
We cant play against each other on the network because it detects the fact that thier using no-cd patches. How can we get around this? ive looked for a Generals network patch or online patch but with no joy! Even if we all have the same CDkey (the proper one that came with my legit copy of the game) it still detects the nocd patch, ive also tried to download a copy of the cd and burnt it but it jus tasks for the correct cd!
