I heard that on the rip of Xenosaga they had lowered the quality of the movie sequences to make them smaller and therefore to fit onto a dvd-r.
As for broken PS2, as it was working and just got worse it sounds like a laser problem but with a duff laser u don't usually get red screen, just a messsage saying read error, unless ur laser has degraded to the point of not even being able to recognise a ps2 CD/DVD. As it is a version 1 then it might be better just to leave it in the grave, alternatively if u r confident u could get a new laser for it and then sell it on but I wouldn't bother keeping hold of it. Might be worth transplanting the messiah out of it and into ur other console though!! Regards
