How do you COPY things?

I have a Pioneer DVR-A05U, but I have no idea how to do anything with it. I can't seem to do anything with this hunk of crap, and it costed 700 dollars.

These are the questions that I have:
1. What programs would I need to backup a movie?
2. Can you use normal CD-R's to backup movies?
3. How do you get around the fact that most movies are 6gigs and most DVD-R's are not even close to that size?
4. Is it even possible to make a perfect 1:1 copy of a movie?
