I did that too, but now I think I have an idea of what the problem might be.

Chipzone's mod they sent me is of the chip in a socket type which

they claim is so that I can change upgraded chips into the socket.

I think the problem is that the combination of the two are so

frickin tall that the metal plate the laser unit sits on is resting on

top of the chip and socket. (mods are soldered onto the top of

the circuit board on 7501 models) This seems to be preventing

me from screwing it all the way down. The other matter is that

the screw holes on the board have these metal contact

grid-looking things. I am guessing that the metal plate is

supposed to contact these grids for the playstation to operate.

There seem to be all kinds of anti-tampering goodies like these in

my later model of PSX.

I am affraid I screwed it down too tight last time and I have

damaged the chip because of its poor size for my model.

I am about to screw it looser and see if it works.......
