GTA III Question

alright, i'm a huge newb so if this is an easily answered question then try and give me a break...a while ago a friend of mine burned me a copy of GTA III and he gave me a site to go to so i could download a patch needed to play a burned copy of the game. Well i recently got a new computer and after i installed the game i went to download the patch and the site that i was told to go to had been removed. when i try to play the game without the patch my computer does not read the CD...any suggestions on what i should try?
