Latest versions of sd2 check the ATIP of a cdr to see if it's a cdr or pressed silver original.
Most cdroms cannot read this portion, but many burners and dvd drives can. there is no info to suggest whether sd2 treats cdrw and cdr different.
This is one possible cause.
Another is that dvd drives can be poorer readers than conventional cdroms, and a cdrw will be easier to read (cos of dye type, reflectivity etc) for the dvd drive.

At the end of the day, your copies are working, just not in your dvd drive. Can you run from another drive?
