RA2 and safedisc

I'm trying to make a non-cd version of my RA2 CD (I know there are some cracks available, but I'm trying to learn too) using unsafedisc2. I have followed the unsafedisc2_help information, but am unable to reproduce results that the available cracks provide.
I successfully detected the version of safedisc, ran the dumper and rebuilder, and copied the .mix files from the CD, but it still requires the CD.

The available crack modifies the game.exe and has you replace the ra2.exe (how was is generated?) while the above process modifies the ra2.exe. When ra2.exe is executed, the CD is still required.

Can anyone help?
