Originally before the direct boot chip such as messiah came out
and earlier chips were being used, E A games would not work without first applying the patch you mentioned. Each game would have it's own patch and would be applied to the game using a program such as ppf- o- matic before it was burnt to cd-r. If your game is working ok then you don't have to worry about it. Argo.
