Neokey sbox & dvd-r's

Hi all
I have a NeoKey S-Box one wire job on my ps2 (like it would do anygood on my fridge!) and I have just picked up a pioneer dvr-104 ...Oh joy i thought ... but my first burns just wont have it !!!! (bastards!!) Could anyone help me out here...

Is it the boot procedure i am getting wrong (am using the same as my normal cdr use)?

Is it that i have the y-fronts of a mod?

Or is it that i am just to blond and i should stop using my toaster to play games on?
