Try this, open the tray put in your DVD movie, double tap the reset button twice quickly and your DVD movie should play. This is the same for PS1 backups aswell. If it doesn't , their might something wrong with your connections.
Note: The messiah chip does not support multi region DVD movies, as Channel Technology never finished the code for it because of legal reasons with SONY. Hope this helps!
