anyone want to help an idiot with networking?

i have got two puters in my home which i want to network together to share 1 internet connection so i can play online games. however i am a little lost and need so advice in doing it, i have look on the internet but it assums that you already have a network up and running.

i have:

2 x machines both running windows 98se
2 x NIC (1 3com PCI and 1 3com ISA) both RJ45 connection
20m of UTP cable (was told if I use this then I dont need a hub)

so what i need help with is connecting them together and configuring them to work and see each other on the network, hell i may even play some games on it )

please can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?
