New sereo wont play backups

the problem with the CD is that it will burn, but it will not play on the new CD player...the CD player was bought in November 2000...it comes up with an error code, saying it can't read the burnt copy of the CD. but it will work on the old stereo.and the new sereo is both DVD and normal
