questions most likely heard before

Ok I know everyone gets this but I figure you guys will be nice enough to help a PS2 newbie out.

Now first off there is still no way to get a modchip without voiding your contract right? No plug and play mods like there was on PS1?

Second and more importantly how hard is it to solder and if I wanted to become good at it how could I practice and with what? Is there a helpful website I could look at? Also if I went out to buy all soldering supplies what do I need and about how much has it cost you guys?

Then, finally, what kind of mod chip should I get considering I go through with this and how much does that cost. (Do I need a Messiah or whatever else there is?)
