Newbie PS2 Question

Hi all,
I have just bought myself a PS2 and want to learn how to backup PS2 games, obviously I need a modchip, what is a good one to go for? Do I need any special software to backup games?

Any links would also be very appreciative.

How do I backup GTA3?
