CD-Exchanger / CDR make Question

Equipment - Ricoh MP7080A / ###NE / Nero / CloneCD / CD-Exchanger

I have now managed to burn a good number of 'coasters' for games that are not protected, eg Tomb Raider 2, Wipeout 1 and 2097. This is despite using recommended settings for the both software packages, this leads me to ask two things-

1 Is the the CD-Exchanger more picky than a mod chip. I.E. Could a chipped ###ne play these 'coasters' where as the Exchanger can't ?

2 I have recently used up my stock of Memorex 700mb CDR's and started using Imation 700mb CDR's. I seemed to have a better success rate with the Memorex, so does the make of CDR have any effect on the success of the backup - incidentally the Imation are significantly more expensive per disc than the Memorex so quality couldn't be an issue surely?

The current score is 8 successful against 3 unsuccesful backups. Any ideas / suggestions would be welcome.
