Play Burned Games without ModChip

I heard that with the original PS2s and a gameshark 1.0, you could play burned games just by opening up the PS2 while the gameshark is in and swapping the CD with a burned one.

Is there a way to do this with the new PS2s?

I know that the new gameshark doesn't let you do this but can I use the old gameshark on my new PS2?
