Right. This is the definitive say so on JAP PS2 with a Utility Disk swap trick.
1/ For unprotected games (usually but not exclusively non-EA games), CDRWin is generally used. You take the image in RAW mode to hard disk producing a BIN file and a CUE file (instructions for the burning phase). 2/ You use either Universal Patcher 1.5 or ASA Patcher to patch the BIN file so that it will boot behind your Utility Disk. To do this, the patcher changes the name of the boot file to PBPX_902.2 and adjusts the entry in the SYSTEM file - all embedded in the BIN file. 3/ Then you can use PPF-O-MATIC with patches found at megagames.com or ps2ownz.com to do whatever is needed. Some PAL to NTSC patches work; I found that most didn't so I bought an NTSC-PAL convertor; others have bought a BLAZE Scart lead from PS2 to PAL TV so that NTSC games play in colour on the PAL TV. PAL games don't have to be patched for that purpose because the PS2 will play them and put PAL out the back. 4/ When patched, you use CDRWin to burn to CD-R at no more than 4x. This game will then boot behind the Utility Disk. 5/ For protected games, you have to use CloneCD. Because you can't boot them unless they have been through step 2 above, you have to rename the CloneCD IMG file to BIN; do the patching; rename back to IMG and complete the burn process back to CD-R with CloneCD. You need to have sub-channel data set for reading and RAW-DAO, "Don't repair sub-channel data" on writing. Full CloneCD settings are at ps2ownz.com. So that's clear then! |
