Have you tried loading the save game first, then ALT+TAB to the desktop and start the trainer?
Try this also; I always do this... 1. Start trainer 2. Start Game 3. Before loading a save, WHILE IN the main menu, press the options that you had active when you saved (i.e. infinite power, instant build etc...) 4. NOW load the save...
