playstation 2 patches

Hi to all, hopefully this is a fast and easy question to answer:

What do you have to do when applying a game related patch to your back-up copy of a PLAYSTATION 2 game??? I don't want to try anything until I know how to apply a patch. (I use CDR-WIN, but then again who doesn't nowadays

)
