Did you change the vid card drivers? The current Catalyst 5.12 doesn't come in Control Panel version so I'm still on Cat 5.11.
I also ran into a graphic problem with the game except mine was with the menus, once I'd finished a race all the menu options looked like they'd slid off the side of the screen and didn't show the full text, I could still choose things but it definitley was crack related as the original is fine. Someone pointed out to me that the crack could be from a download edition of the game like a Direct2Drive version and not from a proper cracked retail version, so it may not be fully compatible with the retail game?
