> Performance and maintinence
> System

Click the hardware tab
Click device manager
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Check the IDE channel your writer is on (primary or secondary)

See if your burner is in DMA mode. If it is in PIO, that explains everything!

just check ok.
