In researching specs for newer DVD players, I find that most of them do offer mp3 playback.
HOWEVER, if you read the specs carefully they relate only to the playing of mp3 files on a CD inserted into the DVD player in question. Hope someone else has a better story; I would like to be wrong about this one.
