EXCLUSIVE: SEGA "BOMBSHELL" TAKES SHAPE

Chatter in and around E3 2004 suggests PC owners may wish to keep an eye on the Japanese company's forthcoming "mystery" announcement...

23:21 Speculation continues apace as to the nature of Sega's allegedly "explosive" (company's own description) announcement, due on Wednesday morning at its booth at E3 2004 in Los Angeles (see here for further details).
The Announcement Formerly Known as "Bombshell", which we (un)helpfully rebranded "Segaton" in honour of the now legendary Nintendo Megaton has whipped up the gaming community into a froth of conjecture, ranging from new Sega hardware, to Sega developing exclusively for a single platform. Like, duh.

Conspiracy theories aside, the first apparent concrete information has been brought to our attention by sources operating close to the ground in LA this week. According to our ever watchful spies, Sega has secretly courted journalists from PC publications in the US, suggesting it would be prudent to attend the briefing as it is directly relevant to their interests, without actually going into specifics. Further whispers also point to the announcement being of an online nature in particular.

Alas, whilst offering fresh insight into Sega's self-styled 'Mystery Briefing', it throws up far more questions than answers. Does the PC element mean Sega is to announce a new wave of games specifically for the PC platform?; perhaps simultaneous release of titles on PC and consoles, featuring an online component?; perhaps something to do with Sega's deal with Sports Interactive highlighting a bold new online initiative?; or, equally, none of the above whatsoever. Heigh-ho.

Frankly, we just don't know; but we do know that, if you're a PC gamer, you might want to check back on Wednesday, when we'll bring you what Sega claims is: "explosive news - something even you won't be able to guess!"

This had better be good...
