Slave of the Master

I installed that Pioneer in my 900mhz and it reads kinda slow..
It is the only drive in the tower so far.....How should I have installed it...Slave??? Master??? etc..... Should it matter if my other faster computer has XP Pro.....Should I install XP Pro on my 900..... It takes DVD Shrink about 2 hours to complete on the 900 and about 30-40 minutes on my 2.4.....Is that the normal difference? I am going to get another Lite-on to put in the old one someday...That drive seems to work good for reading for me...... Any help is appreciated..........

Also..I have an old 450mhz that a friend wants to give me.....
Can I do anything with it? Burner......XP Pro.....???? Not sure if I should give him 50 bucks....100 bucks.....etc..etc..What's it worth.... Hard Drive is about 14 gigs or something around there..... THe local computer place can give me the parts for a barebones 1.5 for about $189 then a hard drive and I am set..... They told me that they would beat Tiger just to get my business...Since Tiger sent me the wrong drive....Not Once.....BUT TWICE......That's why I got the pioneer....hehe...Worked out in the long run....
