Ps2 Back Ups

hi im a newbie 2 the back up procedure can u copy ps2 disks straight onto cd-r disks without any patch.i mean the cd version of ps2 not dvd if u need to patch the game does anyone know where to get them from pleaseived use alchohol 120%
nero,cdrwin copys ok on all but im having trouble with patches which one to use help if poss.
