NEC NR7700A

I recently bought an NEC NR7700A writer. When burning a CD, it locks up if try and open any other apps. According to all of the reviews and the specs for the drive, I am supposed to be able to run other apps while the disc is burning, since it has burn proof technology. Does anyone else have this drive, and if so, were there any special drivers involved? I bought the drive OEM bare (no cables or software) as I had cables and I figured I could download the drivers off the web if I needed them. NEC doesn't even acknowledge the drive exists, but the reviews are out there. Nero detected the drive, but not as a burner. I got the ASPI drivers from here, which let Nero see it correctly, but it locked up pretty consistently. CDRWIN won't even see the drive, no matter what I do. Easy CD Creator 5 platinum saw the drive with no trouble, but has the problem of locking up during the burn process if I try and open anything.

Any info I could get would be greatly appreciated, especially if someone can tell me where I can get the correct drivers for the drive.
