"insert disc" error when using cd-r on messiah

If it's the black insert disk screen then the PS2 has determined that there is no readable disk in the drive. It can't focus or it can't find the groove.

I assume that this happens with everything or is it just these two games?

If it's just these games, then what copy program do you use, what reader/burner and exactly what parameters? And if it is just these games, why don't you suspect them?
