CDR Idetifier String

I own a Crative CD-RW4424E which currently has Firmware revision 1.12.
However this device is a rebadged JVC XR-W4424 drive.
JVC have a firmware revision 1.18 for this drive which I have.
Unfortunately the firmware will not be upgraded because
the firmware installer cannot "see" a JVC device only a Creative identifier string.
Can this be changed so the installer will work.
