Copying burnt games

Hi

I am wondering how to copy selfbootable games. I found some info on how to use discjuggler from http://megagames.com/dc/dc_backup_faq.shtml

Copying a Selfboot game with DiscJuggler:

1 Open 'DiscJuggler'.
2 Select 'New' and then choose 'CD Copy from the Same Recorder'
3 Insert the game you want to copy into your burner
4 In the 'Action' box choose 'Write'
5 In the 'Advanced' tab choose 'Overburn' and leave the other settings as they are
6 Hit 'Start'. It will create a temp image on your hard drive.
7 Insert a blank CDR in the drive
8 Press 'OK'

However I can't create the temporary image for some reason. When starting to write session 2 I always reach 3% and then it all stops. The CDR drives stops working I need to reboot the computer.

Copying with nero gave me a CD which my Dreamcast could read, but after a few seconds it just returned to the Dreamcast's main window.

Does anyone know about a program that works, or how to get discjuggler working.

Use the "CD Player to CD Image" option to create an image file.

Then, use the "CD Image to CD Recorder" option to burn a new disc.

I have the same problem when using DiscJuggler. It doesn't matter if i'm using "CD copy from the same recorder" or "Cd to image file". At 3%, after the first session is copied, the computer locks up and I have to reboot. If I check "raw data" under the advanced tab, it finishes creating the image file, but gives several "inconsistency at address ..........." I manipulated the resulting image file following the different ripping guides out there, but so far have had no success. BTW, the CDs I'm trying to copy have the short 300 sector audio file in the beginning.

I actually managed to get discjuggler to work for me finally. The first times I received some blue screens while copying the CD, but it worked. My CDR drive still can't create the image for some reason. It gets stuck at 3%, but my old CD drive could for some reason. I don't understand why, but it works.

One thing about DJ, at about 3% complete, it will invariably sit for what seems like forever (it seems to be stuck), but it eventually will pick up and continue. This has been one thing that has been heavily preached on this forum around a year ago because people always though the program was locked up and panicked.

Try waiting a little bit (possibly even 20 minutes) before deciding the computer is locked up. Go get a cup of coffee or a soda, chat with a friend or something, then come back and look at it a while later. It may actually have been the lag at 3% that you're thinking is a lockup. Don't reboot until you've done this, because on some computers, the machine may become unresponsive during the lag I spoke of above. If this is the case, it will probably respond again shortly.

So it is common that the program gets stuck obviously. I have noticed that you cannot abort any task, the program will continue and the CD drive will not be available until the task should have been ready. However I didn't think that the program would 20min until it starts to read the CD to create the CD image. Because when my CD drive started to read the image nothing happens ater 3%. The harddrive is all quiet and after a while even the CD stops spinning. Lucky me that the other CD-Drive worked better.

I just realized you're referring to the disc READ... I was talking about the disc WRITE stopping at 3%.

Once you've satisfied yourself that it's truely locking up your computer, you can probably make the assumption that your computer is locked up even earlier. I've just seen it stop at 3% for as much as 4-5 minutes and others have reported even longer. It probably depends on the speed of your burner.

I tried what Wayne suggested about waiting 20 minutes or so. Unfortunately, it seems like DJ is locking up my computer. I waited more than an hour and it was still stuck at 3% with no indication of anything happening. Like I said in a previous post, it will not get stuck if I select "raw data" under the advanced tab, but then I would get "inconsistency" errors. I don't know at that point if the image file is valid, but I'm still not able to produce a good CD.

Does any other program work?

CloneCD or Nero ? DJ seems not to work for me. Using Teac 516-EB (16 speed) writer.

Use CDI2NERO to convert the .CDI files to .NRG files. Then use Nero to burn. It works just fine from what I've heard (although I've never used Nero for DC games).

I only use Nero now, 18+ demos tested and all work fine, yay Nero!

I've heard of "someone" who burnt +/- 400 CDI images with DiscJuggler that all work...

lol maybe I shoulda mentioned the 3% thing in my post. I let it sit while I was writing the post and by the time you replied it had finished. Must have taken 40 minutes but it finally kicked in. Now I'll know not to abort it.

Yep, BlueMoon... It would have saved to the trouble of getting a "Get a new CDRW drive" statement.

If I'd seen a hint that it was pausing at around 3% it would have clicked in my head and I would've given you a REAL answer instead of SA#1 (Standard Answer #1).
