UK/EU SCEE Test PS2 Owners?

If you fall into the above category, how do you get around playing PS2 copies? My "Test" unit plays PSX copies but not for PS2. Does the original "Test" unit require an AR2 for PS2 copies or something? Would be interested to here from others who have gotten around this problem.
