Help! Sbox Usb & Ps2

Below are my specs:

PS2 model is SCPH-30001 (got it when it 1st came out)
Game Shark 2 v1.3
USB mod - SBOX (Brightech)
CDRWin 4.0A Beta (burning at 12X)

Problem:
Lately all backups I have d/l such as Tekken 4 (w/patch), Wipeout Fusion and Virtua Fighter 4 do not work. As far as I can get is after I load the backup and press X or O & L1 , the screen just sits on the WAIT screen. The last backup that worked was ICO.

Attempts:
I have tried a few different ways to load the backups but none work. I can play all my PSX backups and the old PS2 backups like ICO. I have been using the same CDR media for all my games, the only thing I have different is CDRWin. I know it works because I use it to burn other types of media.

Questions:
Since there are so many ways to load backups with SBOX, what is the correct or proper way to load them?

Does the version of CDRWin matter? Can I use the latest build or the one I currently own? Does recording speed matter?

I know about the EA games but do all the backups that I create or d/l need to be patched when using SBOX? Since I had the SBOX, I had to patch every single game I obtained such as ICO, NBA Street, Unreal, OKAGE, etc.

Besides game specific patches, is there a specific or popular generic patch for all games using GS2? On GameCopyWorld I see so many different ones. Lately I have tried a few with no success.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
