Unhappy need help pls

I have the first psx from the US ,It's a NTSC SCPH-1001 with the RCA jacks, on the mother board it has a B that is circled and at the bottom it has PU-8. I had a friend put in a chip in 1998 and I bought the games from him that worked with a stright boot, just put the backup in and it played. My question is what chip did he put in my psx and how can I backup psx games with nero or cdrwin (step by step) that will work with this type of chip he put in. The chip has 6 legs with this writing on it

12C508/P
04 SAM
And a little circle with 3 lines in it with the #'s 9814 coming after it
there are 4 wires connected to the chip, 3 on one side and 1 on the other. Please help. can I make backups with nero or cdrwin and if so what are the step and what type of cdr's should I use. Thanks friends.
