Unhappy 3 questions from a girlie newbie!! Some help, PLEASE!!!!!!

1/ My 8 year old son is MAD about his Playstation psone, and had got together a good collection of about fifty games. My ex got some friend s of his at his work to back them all up for him, just to have some backups in case anything happened to the originals. Guess what? Our car was broken into last week, and amongst other things they stole the boxes containing my sons original games!!! Mongrels!! Oh well, at least we have the backups!. Problem is, i would like to 'back up the backups' , as they are on fairly poor quality cd's, and i want to be sure...What is the best way to do this, if in fact it can be done at all. I tried to back up 'ready 2 rumble', and it didnt work, wouldnt even burn right. I have a Diamond data 30x6x4 burner, and was using Adaptec cd copier/easy cd creator. Any ideas would be appreciated. I no longer have contact with my ex, so i dont know how they were copied. Several different people copied them. I really dont know much about copying at all, any help would be great.

2/ I was checking thru the copies just now, making sure they all worked, and 'Road rash 3d' has a funny glitch, where the wheels of the bikes suddenly fill the screen, and the view will switch to the side view...Is this a deliberate glitch, is there a fix for it?

3/ The copy of 'Silent hill' (My game, not my sons) stops at the gore warning page...is there a fix for this maybe too?

Thanks for any help, sorry for my ignorance

Hi Sondra, That's what i like to see, a damsel in distress!

As you can see from your post you have already had over 100 views, (my guess it was the girlie newbie bit that done it!)

in answer to your questions.....

1. Yes you can backup your backups, although NOT legal as you should own the original version of any backups you have, and then only one backup of each original! (glad that bit's out of the way)

I'm not familiar with your Diamond data 30x6x4 burner, but the best software to try first is CDRWin, a evaluation version is available from www.megagames.com together with a basic tutorial. You may also require a program called PPF-O-MATIC, which you use to apply any patches you may need. Again this is available from megagames with a tutorial.

You could also try using CloneCD but your burner must be 100% compatable for this to work with PSX titles.

2. Road Rash 3D, sounds like it has been copied to a poor quality CD as you mentioned some of them are. Also the burning speed can cause a similar problem if it is set too high. I like to use a read speed of 4x and a write speed of 2x, this helps to reduce error's with audio and FMV (Full Motion Video) sequences. You may find that trying to backup this dodgy copy wont work becase the one you have is already giving problems.

3. With Silent Hill, Basicaly the same answer as question 2, does the intro sequence run smoothly or does it skip? If it skips then it could also indicate that the laser is out of line and needs adjusting.

For further help with CDRWin and PPF-O-MATIC then you can also check this site for tutorials.... http://come.to/psxcplist

The only time you will need to use PPF-O-MATIC is if any of the backups fail due to copy protection on the game, which is not the case with Road Rash 3D or Silent Hill. The http://come.to/psxcplist site also has a good list of most of the PSX games and whether they are protected, if they are then you can download a protect fix patch from www.megagames.com and apply it with PPF-O-MATIC.

Well as you can see by the size of my reply, that i was also suckered in by the "girlie newbie" bit

Hope this helps

Email me to let me know how you get on.
