neo 2.2: ps2 becomes to hot?

I always read how good neo2.2 works, especially in this forum. But what is about the heat problem. my video game dealer will not fit the neo2.2 for me, because he is not convinced of this chip. they have tested it, and other possilities to mod the ps2 (like a preview version of the datel 16mb memorycard with bootcd), but they say, the ps2 becomes to hot und they can not give any garantuee, so they don t offer the chip. what do the users who already have the neo2.2 mean?

what is about neo4 (and neo3?), has anyone be able to test it?
are there other possibilities to play backups of psx/ps2 games and imports (both psx/ps2) on a ps2?

I don't use the NEO (I use modchip.com) but the issue, if there is one, is identical. The modchip draws a little power but I've hardly seen a post on any forum that puts this overheating question forward. One person who thought the PS2 was overheating when laid horizontally reported placing it vertically for heat to have a greater void from which to escape through the outside casing (which looks like heat sinks anyway).

So what's your supplier up to? Is he in cooperation with a different modchip maker? Does he recommend any modchips and provide a guarantee? Or is he simply worried that he can't send any duff modded playstation2 back to Sony?

My advice (accepted at your own risk) is to find someone who will fit the mod-chip of your choice. Ensure that it is securely located so that it won't dislodge if you move your PS2 around.

Many people are interested in NEO4; I shall buy one to try although I'm quite satisfied with my www.modchip.com solution; it intrigues me to think that I can boot a backup without using an original boot disk.

Godd luck and let us all know what you do.

Hi Charlie,

I don't think that my supplier is in cooperation with any modchip maker, because they offer different mod chips for example for dc and psx. But they arguee, if they sell a chip and fit it to your console, they want the best possibility and provide a guarantee for that. So if i wanted, of course I could get a neo2.2 from this supplier, but with no guarantee. It wouldn't be so difficult, to find someone who fits the chip, but whom can I get responsible when something happens?

Anyway, neo2.2 wouldn't be my choise because it is not possible to play orginal imports, one of the reasons for I would by one.

So, I am waiting for the next versions or other chips/bootcd etc.

I heard that the housings of next version of the european 30004 is not screwed any more but sticked. so there must be found new methods other than a chip to enable backup copies/imports, a bootcd like the one for dc may be the right way.

Thanks for your reply

Marc

We've all taken the risk of mod-chipping the PS2 in order to play import backups. It's nice that your siupplier will guaranyteee some modded devices and I suppose we have to respect his decision as regards PS2.

But I doubt that you'll find a mod-chip that allows import PS2 originals to play. This is because the boot process, before a mod-chip gets in, reads the disk "off phase" to detect the colour and only allows the correct original as pressed to reach the next stage of booting - or something like that!!

So the choice is yours.

Hi,

I have a NEO 2.2 modded PS2, and have had NO!!! problems with over heating, my PS2 can sometimes be on between 3 and 10 hours a day and its as good as gold, although it does sit in its funky stand next to my tv not in the cabnet with my Video and PS1.
