It's really nice with the modchip.com modchip.

Boot from the PS2 Utility Disk (Jap PS2); wait for it to eject; swap in the backup game; presto! No other questions to ask.

Later versions of the chip use AR/GS according to which PS2 you have.

NeoKey works on all games without a patch except for EA titles.

Ok. I just purchased one of those sbox/usb mod/neo key. And frankly, I love it. Its just like a mod chip. The only thing you ever have to patch is EA games, and that's nothing major. Haven't tried yet though. Later for now.
