Red Alert 2 v 1.004 no-cd needed

Okay, I have tried ALL of the v1.004 patches on GCW, and I can't get the game to boot. It reaches the "failed to initialize" point, and that, obviously, is its terminal point. Any ideas out there to get this to work? Ideas other than to buy the game are preferred. Has anyone else dealt with a similar experience? Thanks in advance!!!
