Need help with running old PC game

Hi folks,

This isn't a question about copying a game, but I figure you guys are probably up on this kind of problem, so here it is: I own Star Control II by Accolade, and I want to run it on my 333MHz PC (which uses Windows 98 OS), but the conventional memory requirement is to steep (580K) so I set the executable file to run in MS-DOS mode with a custom CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT file. It still wouldn't run unless I did a step-through on the reboot disabling my DBLSPACE driver, but then I couldn't get any sound when it ran. Am I caught in catch-22 situation, or is there a work-around for this kind of problem?

BOT is on a distinguished road
If it is an old DOS game chances of it detecting the sound card are non existent.
