Diabl0 II 1.03 - no CD fix.....help ?

I've loaded the fix as detailed with the patch, this is the english version, on Win 2000. However, while D2 works fine, the characters turn invisible....in a Network game, the other characters that join are also invisible. They can be seen by aura's that are cast only.

Any suggestions....what'd I do wrong (is it a fault between seat and keyboard) or is it win 2000 or ???
