Mods chip confusion

Hi guys I am an old guy who know little about games or mod chips. I want to get one for my sons for Christmas though and I have been searching the net and only getting more confused. I see some for as much as $100 and some for as little as $15. I dont know what to get. I can solder the thing in without a prob but I just want to get the right one. USB, Neo4, Neo2.2??????????????? I have no clue. Here is what I want it to do, tell me if it is possible. Play PS1, PS2 games as originals, images on CD-R and i would rather not have to swap them quickly to play. These are kinda young kids and they WILL ruin them trying that and I dont want ot ahve to get up and do it everytime they want to switch games. Also if there is a chip out there that defeats the macrovision as well that would be great. Is there anything available to make the PS2 play VCD's??MP3's?? I just want something that will make the thing as easy to use as it is right now just do more and play more.
