neo key doesn't work with ps2 games

Don't know what to do. My neo key works great with my ps backups, but the ps2 backups don't work.
I have tried using ver. 1.4 and 1.6 gameshark. I followed the correct booting instructions.
Some times after inserting the game after pulling out the gs it seems that it might work. PS2 starts making wierd laser sounds for 10 sec and then a ####ed up little ps screen pops up with the ps1 startup sound.
Don't know what to do at this point. I figure my cdr's are fine since I can use them for the ps copies.
Running out of ideas. It's really pissing me off. I spend hours a day trying different things out. Not one of them has worked.
Hope someone has suggestions.

well, I finally got Unreal Tournament to work, but it's very slow loading. The game plays fine though. Burned it using cdrwin at max speed. Tried burning it again using 1x. Thought the game might load faster, but that copy didn't work at all.
