How to apply patches by Dos?

I have "soul reaver legacy of kain" but I dont know how to use Dos Prompt stuff can any one give me a detailed explenation.
Ive read the manual but I dont understand all of it so pls I need to know,quickly....

copy soulreaver to a dir using cdrwin unzip crack to same dir open a
dos box change to that dir

e.g.

c:\temp\soulreaver.bin crackfile.exe

just hit return magic game patched.
