PS2 modchip problems?
I have had a modchip in my PS2 for about 4 months now, it had been working great until recently. The problem I am having is that every now and then the tray will not close. It stays open and does not close if I hit the eject button or hold down the power button. If I try and close the tray by pushing it in the eject light ####ts blinking and the tray will open. It is really ####ting to piss me off!! If I desolder the wires on the modchip, power up the PS2 for a second and then resolder them it will work fine for a day or two and then it will ####t doing it again. Does this sound like a problem with my modchip or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, John V. |

What type of Modchip are you using?
NeoMod2 or something totally different? Because I'm using neo mod and not a single problem.. Also what kind of PSX 2 is it? Version 1-4.. Version 1-3 has 10 sqaure holes where Version 4 has 8... |

I am not sure what the modchip is called,I bought it from modchip.com. According to their pictures mine is a SCPH 300001 board type 2. I dont know what you mean by the holes, this is all I know.

From what you're telling me Obviously you got the 10Holes=Screws type 2..Versions 1-3 are all with 10Holes/Squares=Screws which are the almost sought after kind by most people who know about PSX2 soldering due to them being the easiest to solder a Chip..I went through hell to get mine recently..
Anyhow sounds like it could be wrong point soldering somewhere.. Try going to this website for Soldering points... www.javex.com This is a another place that carries NeoMod assuming that, that's what you got?! I haven't had single problem with this guys since 2 yrs back when I got my first PSX Modchip to Stealth.. They have explanations and solutions to fixing problems..Great Vendor.. Let me know, how it works out! |

If the system worked fine for 4 months then i would say the solder points are right. Be sure the chip is being mounted in a secure, out of the way place on the board and completely covered with tape so it doesn't ground itself on anything in case it gets jarred. also use a magnifying glass to ##### pin's 5, 6 and 3 to be sure they are well connected and no excess solder is connecting the pin's together in any way.
