Quick question, please read/help

I messed up the the laser on my PSX 100x trying to adjust it to read all my backups. I have the Game Enhancer//External Mod and I know the New PSX's that come with the Dual Shock controller don't have that Port on the back. I plan on either going to a Pawn shop or funco-land and buy a used one. My question:

A. Should I take a chance on a used one, and if so what model should I try to get so that I won't have laser reading problems like before?

B. Stuff the Game Enhancer/External Mod get a new one and find a place to put one inside my PSX?

If B. Can someone tell me a place where I can send it and they do it?

P.S. I'm located in the US (Richmond, VA)

Thanks in advance

Hi
um - model 100x jeez mine died yesterday! - well kinda did anyway (after i had adjusted the bias and gain about 10000000 times)
runs upside down alright though :-)

um 2nd hand psx's - go for models 5xxx, 7xxx - these are the best . the old 'new' playstations (ones b4 psones which are cr@p) - i got a 5502 (pal nz) - it works great - more than i can say for my cdwriter...

um yeah risk the 2nd hand ones - just try get one with little use - in other words, one with the controler thats still got a pattern on the directional buttons, not smooth - go have a look at a new controller u'll know what i mean. also check that the controller has dark grey writing SONY - that means its the original controler. if thats still non-smooth definately buy the psx. basically, any 5xxx+ will last u good. just the 100x's that are piece of sh!t psx's -

l8tr,
q3ak.

when you open up the lid look at the lazer module the square bit that holds the lazer. make sure this is not loose and dropped down at one end. the 100x were made of poor plastic and the guides wore quick. later models are much better.
take a look at this link to see what I mean

you may find something here to repair your 100x as it is a very good site for this. Just befor you really scrap it.
