sounds like a crack that will only work due to it being dumped/rebuilt on win xp

Does this occur with the crack only? Also, search for "RestoreLastError" on the forum, there's a fixer software available for this problem (just don't remember its downoad URL).

The game normally does not even have a copy protection

Well, then the cause for this problem is using a Windows XP-only game on Windows 2000. What do the minimum system requirements say?

Minimum Specifications

Pentium 800MHz CPU
Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP
60MB free hard drive space
128MB RAM
DirectX 8 compatible graphics card with 32 MB RAM (TNT2 or similar)
DirectX 8 compatible sound card
2x CD ROM drive

Recommended Specifications

Pentium 1.5GHz CPU
Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP
60MB free hard drive space
256MB RAM
DirectX 8 compatible graphics card with 64MB RAM (GeForce 3 or similar)
DirectX 8 compatible sound card
2x CD ROM drive

but yeah I'm using an english crack so I guess the person made it so it only works in XP, I actually d/l the tool that changes the RestoreLastError to SendLastError now I get another error

It says it cant find Openal32.dll so I D/l Openal32.dll and put it in the game folder now I dont get ANY ERRORS AT ALL but the screen just blinks and nothing happens

Search for "+RestoreLastError +fix +snd" on Google, the fixer might be somewhere there to be downloaded...

@stealthz:
Please tell me/us what protection is used for the english version of the fine game!
I already completed the game and also the two "expansions" (Neue Herausforderungen + Neues aus dem Labor) and there was no copy protection in my german version.
