Can you use NERO?

Hello I need a little help on copying games that have protection on them. I used CDRWIN to make an image on my pc then I patched the file then copyed it to CD well when I went to go play it nothing happened at all infact the only thing that was on the game was an audio file no files of the game whatsoever. And I was just wondering do these patches even work, and if so do the PATCHES work if you make and image file of the game using NERO cause I like NERO alot better. So if anybody can please help me I would appreciate it.
