The cracked executable comes from the 1.05 original. You cannot make the unpatched (1.00) game work with the (cracked) 1.05 executable! So, yes, you have to apply the patch first.

See MSCab which comes not only in a stand-alone, console version but also as a FAR Manager or Total Commander plugin (yummy!).
