SOCOM Special Actions

I just got the SOCOM game for Christmas and have a question. While playing, I got two messages at the top center of the screen to pick-up some weapons. I naturally pressed the square in the circle key. However, I don't believe I have picked up the weapon for two reasons. First, when I backed up from the (supposed pick-up)weapon , it was still on the ground. Second, the message keep switching between the two weapons for pick-up every time I press the key.

The question I have is, after I picked up the weapon, am I supposed to see it still laying on the ground? If not, how do I pick-up the stupid weapons? Thanks![email protected]
