are there compatability issues between Pioneer DVD-Rom & Plextor DVDR???

I have a Pioneer DVD-Rom (DVD-120S) reader and a Plextor DVDR (PX708A) writer. I am not able to read from the Pioneer and write to the Plextor. I have to use the Plextor to do it all. Any known issues that will keep me from using the Pioneer with the Plextor? Any way to check the compatability?
