X-tra ram needed?

A quick question for all. I have a P4 with HT and dual channel 2X256k ram. My processor speed 3.2 gig. I am runnig a MSI PCI-Express 128mb 6600GT graphics card. My dual channel config has four open ram slots so for like 130$ Canadian I can go to 1.5 Gig ram. From your experience what type of factors make you want more ram? Can you have too much? Like when I run my new NHL 2006 game from time to time I get a bit of slowdown. Could this help alleviate this?

I would really recommend that you got yourself atleast 1gb RAM. It is about the minimum acceptable amount today.
Using 4 sticks might not be good all the time as your PSU will have to deliver much more and some motherboards will lower the RAM speed if using 4 sticks.
But if you buy 2x512mb and it works fine with the other ones keep it, if it does not sell the 2x256 you have.

Too much ram? Well I guess you can never have too much but it is more like when it is simply a waste of money instead of a good investment.
I have 2gb RAM and it feels like that is going to last for a long time.
More than 2gb is probably waste of money.

Mine's dual channel

Kosmiq thanks thats good advice my tech guy in town here said Because it's a dual channel I need to run matching ram. I have ASUS P5GD1 motherboard and he suggested I use 400hz ram. Still think this will slow me down? By the way Kosmiq you know who Markus Naslund is?

If you have dual channel you can still mix 2x256 and 2x512. Because the 2x256 will be working together and the 2x512 will be working together (if inserted like that into the memory slots). The same brand/model of memory is recommended and 400MHz is a must of course...

Of course I know who Markus Näslund is, he is from sweden just like me...
But why do you wonder?

Yah, I will upgrade ram

I was thinking about it even 10 years or so ago 128mb was considered lots of ram! How do I know Markus Naslund? He's only my friggin' hero! My family emigrated from Sweden to Canada about 60 years ago(last name haglund),we live close to Vancouver British Columbia which is where he plays. The Canucks(his team) just played their first home game of the year tonight. They won 3-2 Markus got two goals! I bought a Markus jersey I eat, sleep, drink, hump, everything in it. My girlfriend thought it was cool at first now shes like"Nazzy again?" I'm like come on its been 2 days! LOL What about you bro? Where are you at?

Heh cool, I have some distant relatives in Canada that emigrated from sweden a 100 years ago or something like that....
I am not that much into hockey to be honest, atleast not NHL. Elitserien if any.
Sweden is where I am, and probably will be for the coming 10 years or so. Sure some vacation now and then of course... Maybe Canada someday...

You do not even have to go 10 years back! Back in 1998 128mb RAM was a serious overkill and it would still last for a while too. Nowadays everything is unmodern the time it gets to the chops... :-(
