PSX swap trick question--games with more than one disc

I burned a back-up copy of my Final Fantasy VIII game. Then I used the swap trick to load it up. Eventually, I reached a point where I was prompted to "Insert Disc 2". When I inserted my back-up copy of disc 2, it then proceeded to saying "Wrong Disc". I was wondering if there was any way of bypassing this. Or perhaps the swap trick just doesn't work on games that span more than one disc. Has anyone encountered and solved this problem?

Carefully take out your original disc 2. Use it temporarily to go into disc 2 and save as soon as you can. Carefully put back your original disc 2. Now use the method you used to boot up your backup of disc 1 to boot your backup of disc 2.

i thought FF7 lets you save before swithing discs (i forget if it does), anyway try this

but in any original, then hold down the lid senser, the disc will spin slowly then speed up, when the disc speeds up (with out touching the lid senser) take the original out of the psx and put the backup in the psx and it should play.

i used this method to play my backups that i wanted to use a gs with them and it will work on any multi disc game.

Actually, I'm trying to get disc 2 of Final Fantasy 8 to work. And I tried the trick that you listed, however, I couldn't get it to work; it gives me the same error message. Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

Oh and btw, what's a GS?

GS is a game shark. Those game shark demo discs will also work to swap. Best of all they are free. But you get what you pay for. In the end, everyone I know that had swap magic ended up getting a mod chip installed. I sold my swap magic discs yesterday and was dancin around the house for joy.

well, when it says to put in disc two, take any black bottom, pop it in then wait till it starts to spin fast, when that happens swap.

To use GS/AR with multigfame discs simply use Import Player 1.4 by Herben. It searching for SYSTEM.CNF or PSX.EXE (this last name is used for mulitgame cd). Run GS - change it to IP and game on end. Working fine. PM me if u cant find IP 1.4

Firstly, im assuming that you are using something to hold down the 'cd-spinning' button, be it a toothpick, which i used back in the day lol wedged on the lid of the PSX and the button, or some adhesive like 'blue-tak'.

Multi-disc games have 2 mechanisms of switching discs, and you will notice this when you open up the lid of your playstation when required to switch discs, with the 'cd-spinning' button de-pressed. Some games stop the disc spinning and then prompt you to change discs. The problem here is, with the button depressed, the PSX doesn't not actually know when you have switched discs. It assumes that the lid is still closed. When I faced this similar problem [im playing original multi-disc games] I tried to remove the adhesive and let the playstation stand for a while, with the lid open, for the button to pop back up, change discs and then close the lid. Then my game worked.

Some games will stop the disc spinning, as a playstation does, when the button has been popped back up. Again, you have to make the button pop up, either by removing the adhesive, or waiting.

It took me some time but now i have just enough adhesive to ensure I can perform the swap trick as well as switch discs in multi disc games [i have to wait around 30 seconds].

I hope this is understandable, as this explanation is much easier in person than on a forum.

Keep us posted on the problem.

-Smoke
